DBT Skills Group Therapy
DBT group therapy is ideal for adults seeking structured support with emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness/ communication skills.
Alka has a particularly strong skillset at empowering group cohesion and creating a group space that is comfortable, educational, and targets application of DBT skills to current day, real life application. These groups draw from the full DBT model, including modules that address addiction as part of distress tolerance, to help participants better regulate intense emotions, navigate relational interactions, and foster sustainable change.

Former Group Member Testimonials
“I am immensely grateful for Alka and the way that she holds space in group and teaches us how to be better versions of ourselves. She is truly an incredible therapist and I have learned so much from her, even the way that she facilitates people's comments and questions with so much compassion and care for our humanities. It has taught me so much even in the way I think about holding space for my kids. I want to thank her for being her, and what she does for people who are really struggling and just need a floatie/life line. I feel like she has been that for me and she’s prepared me to go swimming off on my own. I am ready.”
“I’ve never been so changed and helped by any DBT class like hers did. I’m thankful for Alka’s knowledge. I have moved out of life afflicting habits from her group.”
“I can’t believe how fast my time in group went by. Alka is truly gifted at this.”
"Alka’s DBT course has had a big impact on my life and the lives of those in my life. My wife says it saved our marriage, and I don’t think she’s exaggerating. A little over a year ago, I was in the hospital and our relationship was in a precarious state. Today, we’re in a shockingly good place — and we’re expecting our first child this fall, something that was pretty much unimaginable a year ago. I still struggle — and I'll almost certainly repeat DBT at some point — but it's made a huge difference."
Frequently Asked Questions
-
DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) Skills groups are group therapy sessions where you learn practical skills to help with four major areas in life: regulating your emotions, mindfulness, learning how to tolerate distress and manage impulses, and learning how to communicate and engage with others effectively.
-
Alka has been leading DBT skills groups for over six years and has extensive experience helping clients learn and apply DBT skills in their everyday lives. She has also trained clinicians in how to effectively facilitate DBT skills groups and has been invited to consult with other clinicians and practices on strengthening their groups, curriculum, and approach. Her experience leading, teaching, and consulting on DBT groups informs the practical, skills-focused approach she brings to her groups.
-
Alka’s groups go beyond simply teaching DBT skills. They focus on practicing and applying them to real-life situations so they become skills you can actually use. Groups are interactive and discussion-based, with an emphasis on connection and creating a deeply nonjudgmental, LGBTQ+ inclusive, and culturally responsive space. The curriculum is also comprehensive, incorporating the DBT assumptions, Distress Tolerance Addiction module, and additional skills such as the Dime Game that are not always included in other DBT programs.
-
The DBT group is a 38-week commitment. Why 38 weeks? Excellent question! The curriculum has been broken down into this length to allow for one full group for every skill to be taught in depth. When you join, you’ll receive your personalized graduation date, giving you a clear finish line to look forward to!

Life happens! You have up to 6 absences throughout your time in group, giving you flexibility for illness, travel, and other life events. The group also does not meet on holidays, giving you built-in time for travel and downtime. And if you ultimately decide the group isn’t the right fit for you, there is a 2-week withdrawal window. You can give two weeks’ notice and wrap up your time in the group.
-
The virtual group is $100 per session and the in person group is $125 per session paid weekly. Participating in a comprehensive DBT skills group is an investment in yourself and in building skills that you can carry with you long after the group ends. Sliding scale spots are available, just ask!

You don't need to be in comprehensive DBT to benefit from DBT skills. Research shows that stand-alone DBT skills training can significantly improve emotion regulation, anxiety, depression, and psychological distress.
Additionally, skills group is a more affordable option than weekly individual therapy. For those who are a good fit for group, it can be an ideal way to receive consistent support while building practical skills each week.
